XML Tag Import Processor

Summary

The OnBase XML Tag Import Processor (TIP) automatically parses, indexes and stores XML document data streams (files) into OnBase, regardless of XML source. A single XML file can contain multiple documents, which can be parsed into one or more OnBase Document Types. Once the XML documents are in OnBase, they can be displayed using a variety of XML style sheets for viewing and printing.

Benefits

  • Integrate data from multiple business systems by centrally capturing and processing the XML output they generate.
  • Eliminate manual indexing by using the tagged XML fields as OnBase Document Type indicators and Keyword values.
  • Make XML data immediately accessible for Document Retrieval or participation in a Workflow Life Cycle.
  • Improve readability and presentation versatility by allowing the same XML data to be presented using a variety of style sheets customized for display or printed output.
  • Reduce electronic storage requirements by storing XML (text) versus an image file format of the same document.
  • Adhere to industry standards that have been established in XML format.

Design

The XML Tag Import Processor (TIP) processes XML data stream files from business applications, parsing, classifying, and indexing individual document files. Documents are rendered for users by merging each XML document data with an assigned style sheet, stored on a network location, for a well- formatted and user friendly view. Multiple style sheets can be associated to a single Document Type, providing a variety of displays for a single document.

Applications

External Data: An organization receives data from a vendor, who offers to transmit information in an industry standard format of XML. The vendor saves money by electronically transmitting to all their customers in the same format. The organization has the option to save money if they accept this standard format but the organization has to be able to store and view the XML files. By importing the XML files into OnBase, they make the documents securely accessible to anyone who needs access, present them in a user-friendly format and can automatically archive and apply retention periods.

Internal Data: Databases contain information an organization can put to use, but the information is not in an accessible document format. The majority of databases can export to XML, which can then be imported into OnBase automatically, parsed into individual documents and made accessible throughout the organization. These documents can have different layouts for each stage of the business process, making the only data that is needed by the employee visible.
